Observation notes: About an inch long. Sat still on the wall. Orientation: the head was straight up. (The photos seem to change orientation.)

Coordinator notes: This was particularly difficult to identify and I'm not completely certain. I do agree that it's probably Acronicta, but many of that genus - including A. americana - are quite variable, and this specimen looks a little bedraggled. But I can't find a better candidate.
