Observation notes: Seen on the gravel path at the dog park in a wooded area with a lot of wild honeysuckle, elms, and hackberry trees. Flew around me several times, land on the ground for 10-15 seconds, then start flying higher up with another Red Admiral, twirling around each other, fly around me again, land on the ground again for another 20-30 seconds... Coloring was darker than most admirals I've seen and was smaller, about 2" wingspan. Weather: 76 degrees, 80% humidity, cloudy skies (lightly sprinkled about 15 minutes after leaving it).
