Red Admiral
Vanessa atalanta

Observation date: May 25, 2019
Submitted by: WINGSaloftinKS
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Seen on Salvia at garden center I work at. Second one photographed on sweetspire shrub. At least seven Red Admirals were flying about the area (along with an American Lady and Gray Hairstreak). The salvia was next to some sweetspire shrubs, some small royal purple smoke trees, and some globe arborvitae shrubs, all under a Copper River Birch tree, next to a koi pond. They flew about and landed among all of these plants pretty much all afternoon. Sizes: Ranged between 2" - 2.5". Weather: 78 degrees, 75% humidity, cloudy skies.
