Observation notes: Colony of caterpillars found on the end of a young Douglas-fir twig. Over the course of about a month the colony gradually defoliates more and more of the nearby twigs and divides into multiple smaller sub-colonies. By early May members of the colony appear to have completely dispersed and spread throughout the branches of the tree, no longer huddling close to one another.
