Red Admiral
Vanessa atalanta

Observation date: May 04, 2019
Submitted by: stopshere
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It was a chilly but sunny Saturday and I had just put grape jelly in the oriole feeder when I saw this Red Admiral in the dish. He was sitting so still I was afraid he was stuck in there, but when I went outside it turned out he was very much alive, as his wings were folding and unfolding as he ate. He seemed really hungry. When I got too close he flew away.
