Funereal Duskywing
Erynnis funeralis

Observation date: April 05, 2019
Date notes: Time is Pacific Daylight Time
Submitted by: Jim Baughman
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This butterfly was dead when we came across it on a walkway. There's no sign of "murder", although the contents of the abdomen have been consumed by something (see image). It isn't a Northern Cloudywing (Thorybes pylades) because of the white "lace" along the bottom of the hindwing. It has the head shape, body shape and antennae shape of a skipper. I've attached my image of top and bottom of the butterfly, and also an image from the web of a Drusius Cloudywing for comparison.
