Observation notes: I'm not a butterfly expert, but photograph them when I have my camera and do my best to ID them. I saw a few of these flying on the brushy hillside I was hiking and this one decided to stop and give me a photo opportunity. Until it stopped I did not see the orange wing spots. The other two that I saw were constantly moving. This one didn't hold still for awhile, and then decided to stop and eat. We've had a lot of rain here in San Diego County and the bushes and plants on the hill are green and growing. Mustard is already beginning to bloom. Not sure if it was feeding on a small mustard plant or another yellow bloom. It was cool for here today, low 50s, sunny, and rather windy.
