Silvery Checkerspot
Chlosyne nycteis

Observation date: June 21, 2018
Submitted by: Tim Shortell
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It's a worn individual but perhaps not too worn to identify.
Status: Resident
Verified by: A_baldini
Verified date: March 18, 2019
Coordinator notes: Correct, the Silvery Checkerspot. In my experience, the single best way to identify the Silvery Checkerspot is the large white pupil within the black spot on the dorsal hindwing; no other crescent/checkerspot in Colorado has this characteristic. The ventral hindwing also helps tremendously in distinguishing this species from look-alikes such as the Gorgone Checkerspot.
Checklist region(s): United States, Colorado, Gunnison County
