Observation notes: There were many of these skippers in the barrow pits on Verbena bracteata (prostrate vervain). Weather warm, sunny, winds calm.

Coordinator notes: Correct ID; the first picture is the female, and the second one is the male. Another species of checkered-skipper, the Small Checkered-Skipper, is found on the eastern plains of Colorado too (though not as far east as Prowers County).
