Coordinator notes: Correct identification. Silvery Checkerspots also use sunflowers as a host plant, but their caterpillars are much more plainly marked. Both species are relatively common in Larimer County, but the Gorgone Checkerspot is often abundant, swarming foothill canyons and similar habitats.
