Observation notes: I spotted this butterfly among native grasses, Dandelions and Wax Currants on the hillside above a small lake.

Coordinator notes: This is the Variable Checkerspot but it is very dark and late May is kind of early for the species E. anicia in northern Colorado. Wasn't June 22 was it? That would be more likely a date when this species is normally on the wing. Mike
