Large Orange Sulphur
Phoebis agarithe

Observation date: November 02, 2018
Submitted by: TracieHall
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Near the other two butterflies I submitted. This one flitting around the Nova flowers has no spots at all, but I'm still going to guess Cloudless Sulphur.
Status: Temporary Colonist

Coordinator notes: You finally hit the jackpot with this one. I spent a day in San Clemente collecting this species last September 11th, it has only recently moved into southern California from Mexico or Arizona. It may be becoming a permanent resident in Orange County as the host is now being widely grown in that area. Until 1998, there were only about a half dozen records of strays for the state. Orange-Barred Sulphurs turn up in that area once in a while-Ken Davenport
