Red-spotted Patch
Chlosyne melitaeoides

Observation date: October 14, 2018
Submitted by: lanek
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I live in San Pedro Garza Garcia (contiguous and north of Monterrey, Mexico, backing up to the mountains) and had observed a massive snout butterfly migration (dispersion) heading south on October 10, 2018. That migration lasted from approximately 9:00am to 6:00pm with thousands of butterflies flying overhead. (This is my first year here, and I initially thought I was observing the Monarch migration. No such luck, but that should happen soon when this cold spell moves out.) We were hiking in the mountains on October 14 and saw plenty of snouts, but also this butterfly, which I just cannot identify. He/she was resting on a branch when I took this photo. I am sorry it is such a bad photo. I am new to using a smart phone, so still figuring out how to properly use the camera function.
