Common Checkered-Skipper
Burnsius communis

Observation date: September 28, 2018
Submitted by: tnjbodker
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Partly cloudy day temp about 75 degrees.
Status: Resident
Verified by: dbruce
Verified date: October 07, 2018
Coordinator notes: Pyrgus communis and Pyrgus albescens are indistinguishable from field photographs. The only wholly reliable means of identification is by examination of the male valves using a microscope. However, after having done such examinations for a few years, I have found only P. communis in east Tennessee. While I can't make this identification with absolute certainty, there is a very high probability that this is P. communis.
