Observation notes: Clear weather. Host plant is four 10' tall Pansy Redbuds 20 feet from each other. [ UPDATE 9/5/18: Now infesting Eastern Redbuds. ] Not noticed on other plants such as vegetables, fruits or my three 25' tall Eastern Redbuds. [ Was ] Only voraciously attacking Pansy Redbuds. Been here in coastal Carlsbad California for 30 years and never seen this caterpillar before. The neighbor across street added bright yellow milkweed from her Indiana farms this year to attract Monarch butterflies. Local large nursery could not identify these caterpillars. [ but my son did on 9/4/18 ]. This is an exact match. Confirmed: Schizura concinna.
