Horace's Duskywing
Erynnis horatius

Observation date: September 03, 2018
Date notes: It is a sunny hot humid morning.
Submitted by: Mag-Pie
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It was first spotted perched on the leaf of an Ebony and Ivory crape myrtle (small tree in a pot). It then flew over to lantana. Perched in a sunny spot. These plants are located in my backyard.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: I thought that this was probably a Mottled Duskywing, but I was not sure. So I sent the photos to four people in Ontario who have experience with the species, in life and in museums. And they all agreed that it was not a Mottled, but a second generation female Horace's Duskywing. The light, hyaline spots on the forewing are too large, too prominent for the Mottled, but just right for Horace's. Ross Layberry
