Our summer fundraiser has arrived, and we need your help!
We depend on donations to keep Butterflies and Moths of North America online and free. If everyone who uses this resource makes a donation, we could cover our ongoing costs, develop new features, upgrade the system, and maybe even remove those pesky ads. Please make a one-time or recurring donation to show your support for this valuable source of information. Thank you!

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: First saw on my truck tire around 7:30pm August 24th. Was surprised to see it still here at the observation time. Upon closer viewing, I could tell that it was getting ready change into it's chrysalis. Which is when I started trying to figure out what type of caterpillar it was (found a matching photo on your website which is where I copied the suggested identification from). I'm also time lapsing the change on my video camera. Tire is facing North. Strong South breeze. Warm and very humid (85F 8-24 and 88F 8-25 (humidity ranging from 50-100%). Only plants around the tire is grass.
