Observation notes: Sunny, humid, 85 degrees. The butterfly was resting on a leaf in the sun, about 4 feet above the ground, at the edge of the road. Nearby were sycamore, oak, maple, beech, white pine, wild cherry, redbud, dogwood, lespedeza, wingstem, lesser vinca, multiflora rose, autumn olive, joe pye weed, iron weed, milkweed, dogbane, mixed grasses.
