Observation notes: Sunny, humid, 90 degrees. The butterfly was moving among low, small branches in the sun, about 3 feet above the ground, at the edge of the road; when it paused, it flapped slowly. Nearby were sycamore, oak, maple, beech, white pine, wild cherry, redbud, dogwood, lespedeza, wingstem, lesser vinca, multiflora rose, autumn olive, joe pye weed, iron weed, milkweed, dogbane, mixed grasses.
