Coronis Fritillary
Speyeria coronis

Observation date: July 21, 2018
Submitted by: A_baldini
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Time: ~9:45 a.m. Weather: Hot, mostly calm, and sunny, with an approaching bank of thunderstorms. Habitat: Flower-rich floor of a sparse montane pine forest. Notes: These fritillaries were my first observation/catch of the day. Even while in flight, they were noticeably smaller than the other type of fritillary around. Both species were abundant at the campsite, more so than any other butterfly around. I believe the ventral photo also shows this species, based on the rounded silver spots along the border of the hindwing.
