Colorado Alpine
Erebia callias

Observation date: July 17, 2018
Submitted by: Lisahug
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: sunny, warm morning.
Status: Resident
Verified by: A_baldini
Verified date: August 11, 2018
Coordinator notes: Correct identification; the Common Alpine has eyespots on the dorsal hindwing, and is never found this high in elevation. This one is dorsally basking to warm up in the chilly alpine morning (at least compared to lower elevations). As soon as it is warm enough, it will take off and begin nectaring on flowers to fuel itself further.
