Observation notes: This moth is attached to a screen door and appeared to be resting at 10am on July 6. It was still in the same spot the next day at 5:00pm, Friday, July 7. Since the moth was still there on Monday morning, I blew at it to see if I could knock it down, assuming it had died. It spread it's wings a bit and raised it's yellowish antennae but still remained in the same position. The colour underneath the wings was burgundy and/or purple and the body was as long as my index finger. Today, July 10 the moth was still there but moved a wee bit when I blew on it again.
The weather has been very hot with no precipitation. Temperatures were up to 34 degrees Celsius (44 humidex) on July 8.
This building is located in a wooded area next to the Red River just north of Selkirk, MB, Canada.
