Observation notes: host plant is rudbeckia. sunny and 90s. dry this year to date. I have included two photos, as i have a mass of smaller caterpillars, probably checkerspots, that are about 1/4" and i have two individuals about 50% larger and who dont seem to have the orange/brown color in the middle of the tufts. they are all black. both pictures are from the same rudbeckia. can you tell if they are the same species? picture 32 is the smaller ones and picture 10 is one i took a day later to get a better closeup of the larger one. rudbeckia gets morning sun, is in more mesic area.
