Uncas Skipper
Hesperia uncas

Observation date: June 03, 2018
Submitted by: A_baldini
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Time: 11:30 a.m. General Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny, with a moderate breeze. Warm (upper 70's). Notes: This is the only definite grass skipper that I saw the entire trip, flitting around on the trail atop a hill/ridge. There was some golden coloration on the dorsal side, if I remember correctly. Of all the Larimer County grass skippers, the Uncas seems to match this one best in terms of physical appearance, habitat (short-grass prairie), range (right in the middle), and flight time.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Correct ID on the Uncas Skipper. They usually do not hill or ridgetop but usually "rait" for females below the ridgetops. Mike
