Edwards' Fritillary
Speyeria edwardsii

Observation date: June 05, 2018
Submitted by: A_baldini
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Time: 12:15 p.m. Weather: Blazing hot, limited breeze, mostly sunny. Notes: This fritillary came flying by quite quickly, looking red-orange and nearly Monarch-sized in the air. I saw (but didn’t catch) another one within 15 minutes. I’ve never seen any non-Variegated Fritillaries in the city before, but they have all of a sudden started appearing this year. I have also barely seen any Painted Ladies; their migration northward seemed barely existent this year.

Coordinator notes: Beautiful female Edwards. The females really have wide, very black wing borders. Mike
