Sagebrush Checkerspot
Chlosyne acastus

Observation date: April 30, 2018
Submitted by: Kristie Nelson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This was about the only butterfly I saw in Owen's Valley this weekend. But these were the bright orange southern neumoegeni, which I saw in Inyo Co. also. But I'm submitting this as it is interesting to have this form in Mono Co. I have seen the nominate one a bit further north at Black Lake, which I will submit. Miles-wise, these locations are very close (elevation gradient significant) - and demonstrate where neumoegeni and the nominate approach eachother

Coordinator notes: Yes, this is new at the subspecies level for neumoegeni in Mono County, but not real surprising since I have caught it in Silver Canyon not far to the south. Please let me know where the "corrals" are north of the Mono County line. I have taken nominate acastus on the north side of the White Mountains in Queen Canyon, Nevada.
