Coordinator notes: It does look like a Mormon Metalmark but it is not. This butterfly is multiple brooded even flying in the spring. This is Apodemia mejicanus deserti, but if you find black metalmarks in late summer, it could be either species. Apodemia mormo autumnalis is there and flies in late August into October. The two use different buckwheat host plants.-Ken Davenport
