Observation notes: we've had strangely warm weather for February in California. We normally see gray-colored moths around here, but moths have appeared in major swarms outside (hundreds near outside lights... 20-50 of them perched on walls at a time) over the last few days, something I have not seen here before. The arrival of these swarms seemed to directly coincide with the arrival of the unseasonably warm weather. Not sure if these are the same or different moths than the ones we normally see in smaller numbers. They range from about .5" to a little more than an inch in wingspan. Silvery-gray with either tan/gray/black bands or tan/gray/black patterns on wings.
