Observation notes: Sunny day on Pinyon Mesa, Turkey Flats Trail. About 30 miles southwest of Grand Junction Colorado. Most of the similar butterflies on flowers appeared to be Fritillary types, but this one, with similar colors but different markings, was seen on the bark of an Aspen tree.

Coordinator notes: This is the Green Comma, the subspecies hylas also called the Colorado Angle-wing. The Comma or Eastern Comma occurs from time to time only in northeastern Colorado in the South Platte River drainage where it is uncommonly observed.
