Coordinator notes: This looks most like a female Coronis Fritillary which are fairly dark above and I have confirmed it as that one not Zerene. Zerene is recorded from Larimer County but it is an unusual butterfly close to the Continental Divide in the upper Front Range around 9000 ft. It is almost always found only where there are ferns and aspen forest. Ferns in the northern Front Range grow only in a few places up high. I think there are some around Glendevey down the Laramie River off of the Cameron Pass Road and I think this is where zerene was recorded in Larimer Co. It is a common species west of the Divide in Grand and Routt Counties. Mike
