Observation notes: I photographed the butterfly in a gravel parking lot near the shore of a major inland lake in the Alaskan taiga. A different crop of the same photograph was used (with my permission) on page 263 of the field guide "A Swift Guide to Butterflies of North America" by Jeffrey Glassberg (Sunstreak Books, 2012)
