Painted Lady
Vanessa cardui

Observation date: October 02, 2017
Submitted by: BIDEOBOB
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm the Volunteer Gardener at the Webster Comfort Care Home, WCCH, (a hospice) in Webster, NY. The recent very warm spell during late September and early October 2017 has brought a flurry of Painted Lady butterflies to the compact zinnia flowers at the entrance to the hospice. These butterflies have all eagerly fed on the zinna flowers, while largely ignoring the nearby Buddleia davidii bushes. Visitors to the hospice have all commented on the large number of these butterflies.
