Hickory Tussock Moth or Hickory Tiger Moth
Lophocampa caryae

Observation date: September 21, 2017
Date notes: Beautiful, sunny day felt like a summer day even though the fall equinox was the very next day.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The family decided to go for a walk and we see this, not hard to miss, white caterpillar making its way over the bright green blades of grass. White body, black spots lining it's back, and black lashes on the front and hind end. If this is in fact the white hickory tussock moth caterpillar then it would be poisonous. Upon discovery we concluded that it most likely was poisonous and left it be on its way.
