Observation notes: The weather was sunny but cool, around 60º and breezy. The butterfly was fluttering along the shoulder of the trail in a shady area and sometimes clinging to tufts of grass, but seemed unable to fly. I slid my forefinger under its front legs and it held on while I lifted it up. I shielded it from the breeze while I carried it to a sunnier location on the trail. After about five minutes it began flexing its wings, and then took off in flight.
