Observation notes: two together. Could this be mating? In my front yard where only thing blooming is queen annes lace and sunflowers.

Coordinator notes: Correct ID. This is certainly how butterflies mate. Based on your second photo, I'd say the one on the right is the female because of the much larger body (for carrying eggs).
