Observation notes: Early evening, mostly sunny with a few clouds, about 70 degrees, light breeze. The butterfly, with silvery spots reflecting white, was among the stickers, clinging to the underside of a thistle leaf, beside a gravel path bordered by waist-high weeds and mature woods on the both sides. Nearby were goldenrod, joe pye weed, ironweed, milkweed, fleabane, honeysuckle, serviceberry, hawthorne, oak, maple, beech, mixed grassses, ferns.
