Yellow-striped Armyworm Moth
Spodoptera ornithogalli

Observation date: August 23, 2017
Submitted by: Rosemary Cotnoir
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I was using a flat piece of cardboard in the driveway to paint something. Dragged it into an open garage. Came out about 1 hour later and it was on the cardboard. Took a photo and tried to identify it myself. It's probably a pest because I couldn't find anything similar when I searched the web for butterflies and moths. It is about maybe 2" long, no hair. Weather is about 82 44% humidity. I live in Essex, CT. It's probably something pretty common but I couldn't identify it.

Coordinator notes: S. ornithogalli often closely resembles Noctua pronuba, the European Yellow Underwing. I'm pretty sure this is the former, however.
