Observation notes: This looks like a butterfly caterpillar. It was 3.5-4 inches long. It has a blue stripe, red stripe, and orange stripe on it as well as black and white design on it's back
I was weeding in a field of monarda and this was attached to a vining weed that was growing up the monarda. It was sunny and warm- about 75 degrees and this caterpillar looks close to the chrysalis stage. I am sorry I do not know the host plant
