Butterflies and Moths of North America

collecting and sharing data about Lepidoptera

  Sighting 1133107

Observation date: August 07, 2017
Submitted by: Marcia Goodrich
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found on a path in the woods. It seems to lack striations characteristic of gray commas, but to me the overall underwing coloration looked like the gray commas I saw in my guides. The comma mark does not look like the one in Weber's "Butterflies of the North Woods," but it is tapered at both ends. One expert offered that it was a hoary comma, and another said it was unidentifiable. I'd love a third opinion.
