Observation notes: We found the caterpillar on a branch of our pine tree which we were trimming back that evening. My husband almost squished him because he blended in with the tree bark so well. He was aprox 2inches, stripped with brown, black, white, and bits of yellow and reddish orange, and he also had long blondish hairs around the bottom of his body where his feet are. We decided to keep him safe in a jar and within 3 days he spun a cocoon attached to a small brachial in the jar. We have been waiting for him to emerge and finally today he did. I noticed him around 8am this morning when I checked on him for the second time. He was still in his cocoon at 6:45am when my husband left for work. I have had him in a sunny and shady window with plenty of fresh air.
