Milkweed Tussock Moth or Milkweed Tiger Moth
Euchaetes egle

Observation date: July 31, 2017
Submitted by: Exo514
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I first noticed this group of caterpillars due to an odd milkweed plant. Most of one leaf was stripped and replaced with silk. On close inspection, I discovered that it was due to a swarm of dozens of tiny tussock moth caterpillars. Each specimen was tiny, only about half a centimeter long and probably less than a week old. The caterpillars were not moving at all, but once something disturbed the milkweed plant they would start jostling around. I took three of them to raise into adulthood.
