Great ash sphinx
Sphinx chersis

Observation date: July 23, 2017
Submitted by: Tara8273
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The moth is very large about 5-6" in length, wings are multi shades of grey resembling bird feathers, which get "fuzzier" around its head. It arrived in the morning (which was sunny but cool) and landed on a grey planter box I have in my garden. The moth stayed there in the shade throughout the morning, and now the sun has been shining on it about an hour. It wasn't disturbed by me doing yard work or gardening around it.
