Taxiles Skipper
Poanes taxiles

Observation date: July 11, 2017
Submitted by: A_baldini
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found in a field of morning glories and weeds, mostly low vegetation. It was a very warm, partly cloudy day. Also, I have a question. Do Taxiles Skippers prefer cloudy weather? On sunny days I never see them anywhere around my house, but on cloudy days, they're suddenly everywhere.

Coordinator notes: I spoke too soon thinking this was a duplicate submission (technically it is since it is from the same location, other than being a female and the BAMONA manager may disallow it?), but since you asked a question I'll answer that and send it thru as a verified sighting. The Taxiles Skipper is usually found in shady areas when the sun is out but since it was cloudy (and probably got cloudy after it was earlier sunny and warm - then still warm) they were active and explored your home area for the nectar-flower sources from nearby. When the sun comes back out - back they go to their more favored shady spots. Mike
