Zerene Fritillary
Speyeria zerene

Observation date: June 26, 2017
Submitted by: wings and things
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: taken in the front garden on lavender bush
Status: Resident
Verified by: mikefisher
Verified date: August 07, 2017
Coordinator notes: Looks like the Zerene Fritillary to me (subspecies maybe malcolmi/cynna/gunderi). The silver spots on the underside are too small and not round enough for S. coronis and the upperside looks light. It is worn and zerene is one of the first flying fritillaries in the West. Looks like a female but hard to confirm as the shadow makes the abdomen too dark to see clearly. Mike (CO coordinator).
