Observation date: February 06, 2017
Submitted by: Candyce
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: After first noticing it, I thought it was stuck in the mud. After further investigation I then noticed it's head was completely gone. At the time of discovery it was still fluttering around. This continued for a couple additional hours. I still do have the butterfly.

Coordinator notes: Very nice find. These are a resident in KY but not recorded very frequently in Kentucky. Check out the Kentucky Lepidopterist Website to see the recorded Great Purple Hairstreak findings. They are one of my favorites!
