Observation notes: Papilio zelicaon (anise swallowtail) male sucking on Cirsium (thistle). Very thirstily drank for several minutes, jumping from flower to flower, before flying away. Time was around 4:00 PM and weather was sunny and warm. The flowers of this plant were in full bloom and were extremely popular among late season Papilio zelicaon such as this one, as well as several smaller butterflies, especially Poanes melane.
