Desert Marble
Euchloe lotta

Observation date: March 13, 2016
Submitted by: JoseBonner
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: A cool day with a few Marbles flitting about. Some nectaring, but more commonly resting on the ground in refuge from the wind.
Status: Resident
Verified by: Ken Davenport
Verified date: December 27, 2016
Coordinator notes: Some view the Desert Marble to be conspecific (the same species) with the Pearly Marble (Euchloe hyantis). I find intermediates of hyantis/lotta in the southern Sierra (and White Mts. E of Big Pine near Westgard Pass) that show mixed characters.characters. Blend zone or hybrids? I don't know. In any case yours are lotta. Anthocaris (sara) pseudothoosa also occurs with lotta in the White Mts. E of Big Pine and white cethura also occurs near there on Elephant Hill-Ken Davenport
