Genista Broom Moth
Uresiphita reversalis

Observation date: November 10, 2016
Submitted by: Leigh_A
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Came into the house from the garden, either from either Pine or Ivy in Mill Valley, California. The weather was warm and sunny, with some clouds. It has been a bit cold recently, with some rain. We live about 1000 ft from sea level, up by Blithedale Ridge. I haven't seen it eat since we found it yesterday afternoon, and doesn't seem interested in the types of leaves we've given it, including: two different kinds of rose leaves, trumpet vine leaves, lemon tree leaves, and jasmine leaves. The leaf it keeps returning to is a rose leaf. Specific features are: Yellow/Green base with black and white speckled lines of dots going along his sides and back, and underneath. Head, tail, and legs are black. Head is small and round, and tail is short. Single and a few multiple hairs stick out from each speckled dot on his sides and back. These hairs are very fair and white, and very thin and sparse. It is about 1 and 1/4 inch long and about 5mm thick.
