Observation notes: Spotted in town on the trunk of a 100-year old Colorado Spruce; outside temperature was about 50 degrees F and it was all but immobile; it was also highly visible and could easily have been picked off by a bird. A friend suggested it looked a little like a dingy cutworm moth but that doesn't seem correct to me.
