White-dotted Groundling
Condica videns

Observation date: August 20, 2016

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Took me awhile to learn about a difference that appeared in this individual. I could not find examples of C. videns with the dark scales on thorax and forelegs. However several regional experts, including Rae Letsinger and Jim Wiker confirmed this ID. Rae assured me that this species can be quite variable. Jim educated me that this may be a very fresh specimen, and that they can have scales that blow off on first flight. It is possible this may actually represent another species or sub species, but I found no evidence of that. Posted on BugGuide: http://bugguide.net/node/view/1295357
